Week of Nov. 8-12

Monday, Nov. 8

We reviewed the worksheet from Friday about converting between fractions, decimals, and percents.

Tuesday, Nov. 9

Students have received their http://ixl.com/ logins and passwords - they can check their ADSB email if they ever forget.

When students log in, they should look for "Learning--->Recommendations".

They will have recommendations for ongoing diagnostics (each week or at home) and Ratios and Rates (currently).

As a parent, you can have your child log in and check their progress at any time.

Wednesday, Nov. 10

For today, students should review proportions using these videos:

Set up your proportions in fraction form and use cross multiplying to find the missing number. If you have three or more numbers in a ratio, please set it up like this:

5 : 2 : 8

= 10. : :

What is the scale factor?

What do we multiply or divide by? …. multiply by 2!

Then, let’s practice in IXL!

Please log in and check your teacher recommendations for today. If you happen to finish early, please do more of your diagnostic.

Thursday, Nov. 11

For today, Nov. 11, don't forget to take time to remember those who gave their lives for all the freedoms we enjoy. Lest We Forget.

Yesterday, we looked at some videos going over proportions.

They are equivalent (look for the = sign) rates or ratios.

Today, we will continue in IXL . I have recommended:

Solve the proportion- Grade 6, P.16 https://ca.ixl.com/math/grade-6/solve-the-proportion

Compare ratios: word problems- Grade 6, P.12 https://ca.ixl.com/math/grade-6/compare-ratios-word-problems

Compare rates: word problems- Grade 6, P.13 https://ca.ixl.com/math/grade-6/compare-rates-word-problems

I suggest you try them is this order. Even if you get a question wrong, it's OK - they will show you the answer and how to do it.

Please make certain you look at this explanation; it is the MOST important part of this practice. Progress is being recorded and we can look at your results tomorrow :)

Friday, Nov. 12

We looked over all of our Diagnostics in IXL. Students are reminded to focus on the recommended tasks first, THEN they can work on other areas if they wish.
